This paper estimates empirical demand functions for premium gasoline as well as for new cars wtih particular attention to the effects of changes in gasoline prices. More specifically, the paper tries to determine the effectiveness of policies designed to conserve gasoline prices on the demand for premium gasoline, but also by attempting to take into account the differential effect of these changes on the size composition of the existing stock of automobiles
