This paper offers a practical methodology for assessing the economic impact of soil erosion and illustrates the methodology with results from two key watersheds, namely Magat and Pantabangan in the Philippines. Part II assess the on-site economic cost of soil erosion in the Magat and Pantabangan watersheds, and Part III evaluates off-site (or downstream) effects. Part IV presents the implications of the results obtained in the previous sections for (a) forest and soil conservation policy and (b) approaches to watershed assessment and management
