Three levels of analysis, using combined macro and micro data, make up the different phases of the study. THe first phase involved the identification of upland sites using available topographic maps and serial photographs. The second phase focused on the major migration streams identified from the Census of Population in 1980 and the third phase analyzed upland migration from the perspective of micro, village-level information. The case study results are presented in Part IV
